Altec Lansing iM9 inMotion Mobile Speaker Dock for iPod (Black) We received one adapter in the package that was for 120 V AC current. They seem to be well suited for this. If you wish to use household current to power the speakers, you need to connect the transformer (called power supply) to one of several adapters suitable for domestic or international use. The package appeared to have been sealed at the factory. Thus, as best I can tell, the seller was not responsible for this problem. They are relatively compact and light weight. Unfortunately, we encountered one problem.
However, it did not look like the adapters pictured in the parts lists on the box, and we could not attach it to the transformer. Our only choice was to return the product. I bought these speakers as a gift for a minister who wished to use them for small outdoor religious services, such as weddings, memorial services, and the like. Running on four C batteries, they provide a rich and powerful sound. Thus, we could not use household current to power these speakers.
Thought this was brand new, yet apparently has been around for a number of years - looks now like something AAFES had overstock in their warehouse and placed it on an endcap hoping that some fool like me would come along and snatch it up. So, this is definitely being returned. And, I can get a power adapter. I'm still taking it back to where I bought it.The killer about this is the packaging itself: it SAYS that it charges ipods. In fact, everything I mentioned is common in similar equipment (even other items from Altec Landsing).Yes - I can get a cable to connect it to a TV. It's Christmas Eve, I can't fix the issues that I have with it tonight - or tomorrow.
I'm boxing it back up, and it's going back to the store on Sunday.To add insult to injury - I paid $194 for it, and I see here that I can get it for half price almost anywhere else. Great, except that it doesn't charge ALL ipods, (including my ipod Touch). A remote control also could have been useful. And I can get by without charging the ipod on it, and, I can get up to change programs, or shut it off. It SAYS that you can connect it to most TVs with a composite connection, except that there's no cable allowing you to do so. 1st - the positive - it sounds great.
It SAYS that it uses 110 ~ 220v, but the only adapter that's with it is 110v, and since I live in Germany that's not very practical. But, you know what.
Truly superb performance for such a tiny dock, plus for such a cheap price, you have to hear it to believe it.Great for BBQs and the usual gatherings with family and friends, it has a good amount of volume and presence.TIP: Place your iPod EQ in Treble Booster for a better sound.
I've used it outside and the sound is still loud and good quality. I love that the ipod sits "in" the device, so there is not option of knocking it off the dock. I love this product and have been very pleased with it. The sound is great. The portability is fantastic and works with a cord or batteries.
All in all for the price I don't know how you can beat it. I was also pleasantly surprised that it came with a power cord as well so I can use it both as a plug in or as a mobile unit. It uses 4 C batteries and I'm on the 10 round of golf on the same set of batteries and its still going strong. Added benefit with the iPhone is you can play Pandora radio. The iM9 inMotion speaker is an awesome product. I purchased it to put in my golf cart while playing and was blown away by the sound it produces. It has a aux connection on the back so if you have a devise that doesn't fit in the pop out window (as my iPhone 3GS doesn't without taking the plastic protective cover off) you can connect it with a mini plug.
